Study on Laser Surface Hardening Behavior of 42CrMo Press Brake Die

Laser surface hardening is a promising technology to enhance the properties of surfaces. This was used on 42CrMo press brake die. Its behavior investigated by using scanning electron microscopy and backscattering diffraction. The results indicated that martensite in zone significantly finer than substrate. There were many low-angle grain boundaries zone, kernel average misorientation orientation spread grains obviously greater, which further improved hardness especially near microstructure blade maintained excellent uniformity with treatment single-pass laser spot size 2 mm, speed 1800 mm/min, power 2200 W. 1.6 times higher base material, thickness reached 1.05 mm.
